Dr. Cremin to Present on 'Eisenhower Era' in Lake Forest on September 12

Published: August 26, 2024.

Dr. Dennis H. Cremin, chair and professor of the History Department at Lewis University, will be a featured speaker at the History Center of Lake Forest & Lake Bluff. He will join History Center Executive Director Carol Summerfield in a discussion about the "Modern in the Midcentury" exhibit at 7 p.m. on September 12. The exhibit, open through the first week of November, examines the cultural impact of 1950s America.

The event will explore the Eisenhower era (1953-1961), a time of rapid cultural change in the United States. Dr. Cremin and Ms. Summerfield will discuss how magazines, radio shows, television, and LP records, once considered disposable, have become significant markers of "modern American life." They will highlight rock and roll's rise, consumer culture's influence, and the era's lasting impact.

Dr. Cremin, author of the award-winning Grant Park: The Evolution of Chicago’s Front Yard, is an expert in U.S. popular culture and has curated several exhibitions.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information or to register, please visit the  website.
